Buying tyres on Zip Pay

Unless you’re a vehicle enthusiast, tyres are often a grudge purchase that creeps up on you. We’ve written many articles on how to look after your tyres, how to recognise different types of tyre wear, optimising your tyre pressures and more, but eventually, you’ll need new tyres.

Many drivers don’t pay too much attention to their tyres until they have a serious aquaplaning issue, or a shop comments on the state of their tyres, warning them they should really look into replacements.

Modern vehicles rely on quality tyres to perform at their best. Safety features such as anti-lock brakes, lane-assist, active emergency braking and more are calibrated to function best with tyres in good condition.

What is Zip Pay?

Zip Pay and Zip Money are often used synonymously, but they’re different products offered by Zip Co.

For purchases between $350 and $1000, Zip Pay is a great BNPL (buy now, pay later) option to make sure you’re not driving around on old and dangerous tyres.

For purchases over $1000, that’s where Zip Money comes in, with slightly different terms and conditions

If you’re already using Zip payments for other purchases, you’re likely familiar with the process, but Donnellans advise you fully investigate Zips terms and conditions on their website before signing up to see if this payment system is right for you.

Why should I BNPL my tyres?

Putting consumable products on credit might sound like a poor plan, but there are instances where it might be beneficial to buy now, pay later.

  • Purchasing a premium All Terrain or mud tyre won’t always give you more grip off-road, but it will likely net you a range of features associated more closely with a premium AT tyre. These can include heavier duty reinforced sidewall construction and stone/dirt ejectors that are often missing from budget tyre options.
  • A lot of the higher end sports tyres feature additional R&D, giving you a tyre that performs better and brakes quicker while being less noisy on the road.
  • If you’ve been caught out by a punctured or damaged tyre and you require your vehicle to be roadworthy, either for commuting to work or as reliable family transport, using a credit system like Zip can ensure you’re not driving around on dangerous tyres.

How do I use Zip payments at Donnellans?

For existing Zip customers, just use your card at the till like normal.

But if you’re setting up a new account, Zip says a quick credit check is often part of the sign up process, so if you’re planning to BNLP your tyres with a new Zip account, it’s best to set one up beforehand to ensure you can cover the quoted cost. The process typically takes only a few minutes and can be done from their website, or their mobile phone app.

Once your account is approved the payment will either be processed as a Zip Pay or a Zip Money transaction, depending on the total cost of your new tyres.
